The bridge is burning in Pittsburgh, and Ross Atkins needs to drive a truck right through the smoke to pick up a legend.
Andrew McCutchen isn't just a free agent; he is a franchise icon who feels betrayed, and that is a dangerous weapon to leave on the market.
After three straight one-year reunions with the Pirates, "Cutch" has taken to social media to vent his frustration about being ghosted by the only team he wants to play for.
He explicitly compared his situation to how the Cardinals honored Albert Pujols, wondering why he isn't getting the same respect.
That opens a door for Toronto.
McCutchen (Drafted 1st Round, 2005 by Pittsburgh) is 39 years old, but he hasn't stopped producing.
In 2025, he played 135 games, hitting 13 home runs with 57 RBIs and a respectable .700 OPS.
He isn't the MVP of 2013 anymore, but he is a professional hitter who grinds out at-bats and destroys left-handed pitching.
With the Blue Jays needing right-handed balance and clubhouse leadership after Bo Bichette's departure, this fit makes too much sense to ignore.
Analysts are already connecting the dots, suggesting Toronto could be the perfect landing spot for the spurned superstar.

Respect is the ultimate currency
If Pittsburgh won't give him a farewell tour, Toronto should give him a playoff chase.
McCutchen would instantly command the respect of a locker room that is in transition.
Imagine him as the primary DH or rotating into the outfield corners, mentoring George Lombard Jr. (if he gets the call) or calming the nerves of a young pitching staff.
He is playing on one-year, $5 million deals at this stage. That is pocket change for the value of his presence alone.
We saw what a veteran like Justin Turner did for the offense a few years ago; McCutchen brings that same energy, plus a chip on his shoulder the size of Pennsylvania.
He wants to prove the Pirates wrong. Let him do it in a Blue Jays uniform.
Bring "Uncle Larry" to the 6ix.
