The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to bring in an impactful outfielder this winter and it looks like long time rival Anthony Santander could be that player for them.
Toronto needs to improve their offense this winter as they can't afford to be losing games 1-0 or 2-1 anymore as those are easy wins that matter at the end of the season and bringing in more offense seems like a must at this point.
Blue Jays looking to sign Anthony Santander
While Juan Soto seems to be the biggest free agent on the board this off season, if the Blue Jays are not able to land him, long time rival Anthony Santander could be a great second option as an outfielder with a great hitting ability.
"If they want to land an outfielder that does damage, Baltimore Orioles switch hitter, Anthony Santander is headed towards unrestricted free agency this Winter. Santander, 29, slashed .235/.308/.506 with 44 home runs and an OPS+ of 134. Toronto should be quite familiar with Santander, though. In 2024, Santander slashed .302/.339/.717 with six home runs in 13 games against the Blue Jays." -McAvoy
Santander had an unbelievable season in Baltimore this past year and is a proven solid hitter but he will also attract a ton of attention on the market this summer as many teams are looking for big time hitter.
The main risk when it comes to signing Santander is that most insiders believe that this past year will go down as the best season of his career and a team will pay for a 40+ homerun hitter when Santander's average is more in the low 30's.
If the Blue Jays are able to land him at the right price, this signing could make a ton of sense but overpaying for Santander might end up being a terrible move in the long run.
