The Toronto Blue Jays are facing greater pressure than most teams this season.

After finishing last in their division, they've reached a pivotal moment. Extending Vladimir Guerrero Jr. removed the biggest uncertainty from their roster, but with a rising payroll and underwhelming performance, several figures remain under scrutiny.

MLB writer reports that John Schneider may soon be out of a job.

Jackson Roberts from the Sporting News writes that John Schneider, who took over as manager midway through the 2022 season, is now in the final year of his contract. With the Blue Jays battling to stay competitive, he's well aware that producing results, and quickly, is essential.
"If the Blue Jays wind up out of the playoff race by the trade deadline, that could spell serious, serious trouble for Schneider in his quest to keep control of the Toronto dugout." -Roberts

Following the season's first managerial dismissal by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer listed John Schneider on Friday as one of six managers currently on the hot seat.
"The 17-20 record is therefore not the best look for Schneider, and the trendline is not going up. Since getting out to a 12-8 start, the Blue Jays have lost 12 out of their last 17 games." -Rymer

To be fair to Schneider, he can't single-handedly make Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, or Anthony Santander start hitting home runs. The Blue Jays have struggled mightily in that department, tied for last in the league with just 26 homers, alongside the Pirates and White Sox.
"If the Blue Jays are going to make a move up the standings, it has to be soon. Otherwise, they'll have little choice but to start selling off parts (i.e., Bo Bichette, Chris Bassitt, et al) at the trade deadline. If Schneider can't spur this move, the Blue Jays must wonder if someone else can." -Rymer

At the end of the day, this is a team with a hefty payroll and lofty expectations, and fair or not, people will lose their jobs if they can't show they're legitimately contending for a World Series within the next year or two.
