The Blue Jays have been playing well lately but their last two games have not been easy as they have been outscored 16-6 against two very average teams in the White Sox and Diamondbacks.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider does not hold back on pitcher Spencer Turnbull
The Blue Jays had Turnbull take the mound for the first time for the Blue Jays since signing him a little over a month ago after a short rehab stint in the minors due to a clause in his contract.
After just two innings against the lowly White Sox, Schneider pulled Turnbull from the game as he only threw 45 pitches, giving up a total of 5 hits and 4 earned runs in that time.
John Schneider is out to lift Spencer Turnbull after just 2+ innings and 45 pitches. He allowed five hits and walked two batters, including the leadoff man in the third.
#BlueJays definitely wanted and needed more today.
Spencer Turnbull faced 12 White Sox hitters today, allowing seven to reach base. Five hits, including a homer plus two walks. Three runs scored before Turnbull was pulled (with a runner on first still his responsibility).
Topped out at 92.3 today, sat 90.3 mph with his heater.
After the game, Schneider spoke on Turnbull's performance making it clear that he did not spend enough time in the minors and that if he wants to keep a roster spot, he needs to step up his game.
Schneider called this a "tough build up" for Turnbull, who struggled tonight:
«We know he's thrown 80 pitches in the minors and can offer that, but at the same time, you're in the business of winning games every single night. It's up to him to dictate what we're going to do.»
