The Blue Jays recently gave Santander a break to help him reset while he was also dealing with a hip issue but it did not seem to help much since he has continued to struggle since his return.
Blue Jays Anthony Santander speaks on his struggles at the plate
Toronto is trying to help Santander as much as possible when it comes to all of these issues which is why they continue to give him breaks and help him out but it does not seem to be doing the trick.
It was the second time in the span of a week that Santander had to sit out multiple games with an ailment. First it was the left shoulder, the product of a dive into the stands in Anaheim.
Then it was the hip, which he first felt on a swing on Thursday. These setbacks take a toll, especially for a slugger who's struggled to find a rhythm in his early days with a new club. -Kreuz
Santander spoke with reporters yesterday after the loss about his struggles as he stated that he is battling through it as much as he can but that he is trying to stay as positive.
«I'm battling,» Santander said in Spanish from his locker at Rogers Centre. «Really, I am. But I'm staying positive.» -Santander
This kind of message is a quite discouraging for the fans since they expect a lot more from Santander, especially for the money he is making and would hope that he would speak on some kind of solution he is working on.
Santander is in an unfortunate spot but at the end of the day no one wants to hear about how he is trying to stay positive, people want to know what he is doing to try and fix these problems.
Manager John Schneider added to these useless comments by stating that he thought he took some really good swings during yesterday's game but that means nothing if he cannot connect with the ball.
«I thought he took some really good swings today,» said manager John Schneider. « I thought he just missed some balls. That's kind of been the story of his season.» -Schneider
The Blue Jays clearly have a serious problem on their hands when it comes to Santander.
