Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer gives injury update after his first start
The Toronto Blue Jays finally had veteran pitcher Max Scherzer back on the mound yesterday against the Cleveland Guardians and after the game he spoke on his first start since April.
The Blue Jays announced on the weekend that they would have Scherzer on the mound against the Guardians for the second game of the series which came after a solid 10-6 win in game 1.
Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer speaks after his first start in months
Scherzer spoke to the media after the game, stating that he felt good but a little rusty, he added he needs to do better next time around but is pleased with his first apperance.
The good news is that he did not mention anything about his injury or being in pain during his interview which seems to point in the direction that he is finally fine and has recovered.
While Scherzer described himself as «a little rusty» and said «I pitched good, I didn't pitch great,» the physical side felt «very good,» leaving him thinking about «what I need to do, the checks I need to make,» to execute better the next time around." -Scherzer
Scherzer did also mention how it has been a long and painful road with this injury as he has been dealing with it for the last three seasons but finished by saying regardless it felt great to be out there.
«It's been frustrating as heck to be dealing with this for really the third straight year,» Scherzer said. «I finally get back out there, get pitching again, get that adrenaline boost, you can't judge yourself based on pitching without being in a major-league game.
That's when you really judge yourself off how you execute. Today, you know, even though I had all that and we can talk about where the good is, that's where I need to get better.» -Scherzer

Hopefully Scherzer will be able to build off of this game but finishing with 5 innings pitched, 6 hits, 3 earned runs and 4 strikeouts in his first game in months is pretty solid.
This return to the mound could not come at a better time as the Blue Jays are still missing one more starting pitcher with Bowden Francis that just went down.
