The Toronto Blue Jays have been back and fourth with Bo Bichette this off-season and it looks like they have finally come to a decision.

A report Wednesday night framed Toronto's offseason choice in blunt terms, they want Kyle Tucker, even if that means moving on from Bo Bichette. USA Today's Bob Nightengale said the Jays have «already made their choice,».
«I think they've already made their choice. They want Tucker,»

That lines up with the Tucker chatter elsewhere, including ESPN's Jeff Passan noting Toronto is the one club willing to talk about a 10-year range. The Mets, meanwhile, have been tied to a shorter, massive-AAV path, including a reported four-year offer.

On pure 2025 value, the argument for Tucker is pretty clean. Tucker hit .266 with 22 homers, 73 RBI, 25 steals, and a .841 OPS, while Bichette hit .311 with 18 homers, 94 RBI, and a .840 OPS.
Fit matters too, and Tucker checks boxes the current roster still needs. He's a left-handed bat with real power and speed, and that plays beautifully next to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the middle.
Bichette is still a terrific player, but he's also a right-handed shortstop in a league where teams can usually find competent infield offense cheaper. Tucker is a true outfield centerpiece, and those don't hit the market often.
The money piece is the gamble Toronto is choosing to live with. Tucker made $16.5 million in 2025, and a decade-long commitment is scary, but it also buys the kind of star power this franchise keeps chasing.
Seeing Bichette next season in a different jersey will certainly hurt the entire fan base but the front office seems to believe they are making the right decision and when looking at the stats it is hard to argue.
Bichette has been part of the Blue Jays identity for years now but if fans really want to see their team win a World Series, it looks like it will involve having to let him go.
