It's a heartfelt moment for Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr., following in the footsteps of his father Vladimir Guerrero Sr. playing for team Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic.

While he could have played for Canada since he was born in Montreal, Albert Pujols made the announcement that he will play for his origin country.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to play for Dominican Republic at World Baseball Classic.

The Sportsnet staff reported on the breaking news for the superstar first baseman. The World Baseball Classic is always a treat to watch, last time around it was thriller between Japan and the United States, where Shohei Ohtani struck out his teammate Mike Trout to win the whole thing. This time around the Dominica Republic will be bringing some firepower.
"Guerrero Jr. is likely to join a Dominican roster that could include top players like Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., Julio Rodriguez, Manny Machado, Elly De La Cruz, Jose Ramirez, Ketel Marte, and Junior Caminero."-Sportsnet

Guerrero Jr. is coming off an incredible 2025 season, leading his team to the World Series, even earning the ALCS MVP award. He will certainly bring that level of play to the Classic.
He had a decision to make between Canada where he was born and the Dominican, where his roots are, and it's to no one's surprise he picked the better team but also where his father played as well.
"The 26-year-old is coming off a strong 2025 where he had a .292 average, 23 home runs, 84 RBIs, and an .848 OPS. In the post-season, Guerrero Jr. led the Blue Jays to their first World Series appearance since 1993, earning the ALCS MVP award."-Sportsnet

The Classic is to be held from March 5th to 17th, it will take place in Miami, Houston, Tokyo, San Juan and Puerto Rico. It will be a lot of travel in only a span of two weeks, but it's bound to be just as exciting as the last one.
