Toronto Blue Jays top trade deadline target was confirmed by MLB insider Bob Nightengale as Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen.
The Blue Jays have been linked to quite a few pitchers lately as it is apparently their main concern for the trade deadline along with a right handed hitter according to GM Ross Atkins.
Bob Nightengale confirms the Blue Jays are interested in Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen
According to Nightengale, the Blue Jays will be aggressively shopping for a pitcher for their starting rotation and even their bullpen too if they are able to land both at the deadline.
Nightengale stated that Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen is probably at the top of the Blue Jays wish list since he would be a perfect fit to help with their starting rotation problems.

While the Diamondbacks do not plan on selling everyone, it looks like they do not plan on re-signing Gallen who will be a free agent at the end of the season which is why he is likely to be moved especially since they will end up missing the playoffs.
At 46-50, the Diamondbacks enter play on Sunday at 6.5 games back of the third and final wild card spot in the National League. While they don't want to sell, they may have no choice, and Gallen is a free agent at the end of the season. -Farkas
Gallen is currently having an off year as he currently has a 5.40 ERA in 115 innings pitched along with 110 strikeouts but this is good news for the Blue Jays since it means they could likely get him for a small return.
Over the last 3 seasons, Gallen has consistently put up an ERA of below 4.00 with the best season of his career coming in 2022 when he finished with a 2.54 ERA in 184 innings pitched.
This could be a great option that could help the Blue Jays a lot with all the uncertainties surrounding their starting rotation heading into the second half of the season.
