The Toronto Blue Jays announce the signing of Cody Ponce yesterday this most did not see coming as there were no rumors about the two getting a deal done.
When news broke last night regarding the Ponce signing, most were quite surprised on the size of the deal due to the fact that he has not pitched in the MLB in a few years.
The Blue Jays are signing Cody Ponce per @Ken_Rosenthal
Ponce won the 2025 KBO MVP after he had a 1.89 ERA with 252 strikeouts in 180 2/3 innings with the Hanwha Eagles.
Despite that, when looking at his numbers from last season with a 1.89 ERA, 17-1 record, 252 strike outs in 180.2 innings pitched, it is hard to see this as a bad signing.
Cody Ponce's 2025 season in the KBO was historically great:
17-1 180.2 IP 1.89 ERA 2.15 FIP 252 K's 0.94 WHIP Triple Crown MVP
Ponce will now take his talents north of the border for the next 3 seasons
Ponce clearly had a tough time during his last stint in the MLB but it looks like he has worked on his game quite a bit over the last few years and this could end up being the Blue Jays best signing of the off-season.
