The Toronto Blue Jays announced a roster move involving Ricky Tiedemann ahead of the 40 man roster deadline that takes place tonight at 6 PM ET.

The Blue Jays needed to figure out heading into tonight if they thought Tiedemann was worth protecting ahead of the Rule 5 draft or if they should leave him unprotected.

Blue Jays add Ricky Tiedemann to the 40 man roster

The MLB's 40 man roster deadline was tonight at 6 PM ET for all players they did not want available for the Rule 5 draft on December 10th.
Two MLB off-season deadlines this Tuesday:
• Players must decide to accept Qualifying Offer by 4:00 p.m. ET
• Teams must protect Rule 5 eligible players on 40-man by 6:00 pm ET
The Blue Jays announced this evening that they decided to protect Tiedemann by adding him to the 40 man roster.
ROSTER UPDATE:

LHP Ricky Tiedemann has been selected to the 40-man roster
Tiedemann was the top Blue Jays prospect that would have be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft and out of the top 5 or so prospects, he was the only one the team decided to protect.
In 2025, Tiedemann missed the entire season as he recovered from Tommy John surgery but is expected to be ready in time for Spring Training.
In 2024, the Blue Jays pitcher put up a 5.19 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched across 3 minor league teams before having his season ended due to surgery.
