Toronto Blue Jays' star shortstop Bo Bichette is fast approaching free agency, while his mind is most certainly on the postseason ahead of him, his rising contract valuation is certainly at the back of his mind as we get closer to the offseason.
The AL leader in hits is valued at a $182M contract.
Price for Toronto Blue Jays' Bo Bichette keeps increasing as we approach free agency.
Jon Conahan of the Heavy reported recently on the increased contract value of Bichette. While it remains a concern if he will stay in Toronto, there isn't much the Blue Jays can do about it right now.
"Unfortunately, however, for both Bichette and the Blue Jays, they can't worry about negotiations at this moment. Bichette has to go out and make himself more money, and the Blue Jays have to do whatever it takes to win the World Series."-Conahan
Bichette wouldn't want to explore contract negotiations now anyways, he has an opportunity to surpass the $200M mark if he has a good postseason, he doesn't have much to lose if he holds out until the winter, and explores his options.
"When examining what his deal might look like, Yahoo Sports recently predicted him to at least get a seven-year, $182 million contract, which is what Willy Adames signed with the San Francisco Giants an offseason ago."-Conahan
The bigger question is can the Blue Jays even afford Bichette at the current valuation. Toronto took care of Vladimir Guerrero Jr with his $500M deal, so they are clearly showing they intend to win and are willing to pay for it. That should be reassuring to Blue Jays fans.
The Blue Jays are a team that is willing to dish out money to win, and with the pieces the Blue Jays have added, along with the prospects coming through the ranks, they have a bright future ahead of them. That should be more than enough for Bichette to sign re-sign with the Canadian club.
