The Blue Jays decided to trade Danny Jansen to the Red Sox two days ago and since they are now short on catchers, they decided to make a roster move.
Catcher Brian Serven has joined the team since the Blue Jays only have Alejandro Kirk left which is why Serven will likely stay until the end of the season until Atkins decides to acquire a catcher.
ROSTER MOVE:
C Brian Serven has been recalled from Triple-A and will be active for today's game

Many find the reasoning behind not wanting to extend Jansen particularly strange since they now are without a catcher and do not have one that is MLB ready either.
