GM Ross Atkins recently spoke on Toronto Blue Jays top rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage and his availability moving forward for the playoffs.
Ross Atkins speaks on Trey Yesavage's role in the ALDS
When asked about Yesavage, Atkins stated that he would expect him to be a big part of preventing runs.
"«I would expect him to be a part of us preventing runs,» -Atkins"
Schneider then added that he will certainly be a part of the puzzle but that they have no decided yet if he will be starting or coming out of the bullpen.
«He's definitely part of the puzzle» Schneider added. «I have no problem with him starting and no problem with him coming out of the bullpen.» -Schneider
While Yesavage certainly has not seen a ton of playing time since he was only called up in the last couple weeks of the season, not having him in the starting rotation is certainly strange.
The Blue Jays have yet to decide on where Yessavage will play but at the end of the season the only other pitcher that was not struggling was
Kevin Gausman which is why moving Yesavage to the bullpen could be concerning.
In 3 games this season, Yesavage finished with a 3.21 ERA in 14 innings pitched and 16 strikeouts with a 1.43 WHIP in which he started in all 3 games.
Moving Yesavage to the bullpen could still work but it would certainly leave a large gap in the starting rotation that would need to be filled before Saturday.
