Manfred released a ruling that players on the game's permanently ineligible list would be removed from the list once they die. The ruling also impacted any other players on the list, including Shoeless Joe Jackson. -Postins
Blue Jays Hall of Fame GM Pat Gillick had some words for Pete Rose being eligible for the Hall of Fame
This new rule change now means that the MLB all-time hits leader, Pete Rose is now eligible to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame despite being banned for gambling on games.
This means that Rose, who is the game's all-time leader in hits, can now be considered for the Baseball Hall of Fame, something that was not allowed to happen since he was on the permanently ineligible list. -Postins
During a recent interview, Blue Jays former GM Pat Gillick stated that off of Rose's play, it is a no-brainer to induct him but when looking at his character, that is where the problem is.
Based on Rose's play, Gillick said the star's induction is a «no-brainer.» But, with Rose, nothing is quite that simple, he said.
«I think there's more to it than the on-the-field thing,» Gillick said. «The character means a lot and I'd have to question that. It's going to be a tough subject.» -Gillick
Clearly Gillick agrees that Rose was an incredible baseball player but he also feels that players inducted into the Hall of Fame are based on more than just wwhat they do on the field but off of it as well.
