John Schneider spoke to the media after yesterday's win over the Houston Astros speaking on the plan for Alek Manoah's return to the Toronto Blue Jays following the roster move.

The Blue Jays decided to reinstate Manoah off IL yesterday and option him to Triple-A to continue his recovery process while outfielder Orelvis Martinez was DFA'd.

Manoah was reinstated to the Blue Jays 40 man roster as he ran out of time with his rehab on the IL which forced the team to reinstate him on the roster.
"To make room for Manoah back on the 40-man roster, the Jays designated former top hitting prospect Orelvis Martinez for assignment." -Bannon

Schneider stated yesterday that it has been a long 14 months process for Manoah but that it might end up taking a bit more time with a possibility of him returning next year but there is also a chance they leave him in the minors until next season.
"Alek understands it's been 14 months or so of hard work," Schneider said, per Bannon. "And it may take a little bit of time. So if it's this year, if it's next year, we just want him to be himself."

This is an interesting situation for the Blue Jays since bringing Manoah back to the rotation this year would push them back to a 6-man starting rotation since Eric Lauer is now in the bullpen.
However, if Scherzer's back issues do not improve, Manoah could potentially step in to either take Lauer's spot in the bullpen or Scherzer spot in the starting rotation.
The Blue Jays are in a great position right now and bringing back Manoah at this time of the year is very risky with how he has pitched over the last couple of seasons.
Sending Manoah to the mound in a crucial game with so few games under his belt over the last two seasons could result in a disaster which the Blue Jays cannot afford since every game counts at this time of the year.
It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out with Manoah and the Blue Jays over the next few weeks.
