The Toronto Blue Jays just signed infielder Rodolfo Castro to a minor league deal and since the news broke an old video has been going viral online.
The Blue Jays decided to add to their minor league depth this morning by signing Castro to a minor league deal which includes a major league Spring Training invitation.
Clip of Rodolfo Castro goes viral from his days with the Pirates
Castro has played parts of 3 seasons in the MLB between 2021 and 2023 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies but is mostly remembered for a clip that made him famous during the 2022 season.
Back in August of 2022, Castro was playing for the Pirates when he decided to slide head first into third base as his phone fell out of his pocket and the umpire had to point it out to him to pick it up.
Rodolfo Castro loses his phone out of his back pocket when sliding into third base.
Since the announcing of the signing, Blue Jays fans have been quick to point out the moment that made Castro famous as the clips of that play have been going viral online.
Rodolfo Castro's career highlights:
Castro's best season in the MLB came that same season when he hit 11 home runs and 27 RBIs in 71 games that year to go along with a .233 batting average.
Hopefully Castro will be able to make it back to the big leagues with the Blue Jays and will be able to play well in hopes of being known for more than that one viral moment.
