Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt
is a free agent right now and it looks like there is a good chance he will be returning to one of his former teams.

There has been some rumors that Bassitt might end up coming back to Toronto as a relief pitcher after how well he did in the playoffs but he would likely end up taking a starting job over that if he is offered.

Chris Bassitt might be headed back to the New York Mets

Bassitt is currently looking for a new home and it looks like one of his former teams might be very interested in bringing him back as the New York Mets are looking to add some pitchers to their roster this winter.
However, one Blue Jays pitcher has just been linked to a new team. Chris Bassitt has been connected to a new team, and, considering his history, the New York Mets stand a good chance of acquiring him. -Kerney

Gotham Baseball's Mark C. Healey stated that he is hearing that there has been some talks between the two parties of a reunion.
«Heard Mets could be interested in a reunion with Chris Bassitt,» Healey wrote on November 18, 2025. «Not what you want to hear, but worth mentioning.» -Healey

Bassitt stated at the end of the season that he would love to come back to Toronto next season but despite wanting too, he likely knew that it would be very unlikely as he does not really fit into their plans for the 2026 season.
If Bassitt were willing to take on a full-time bullpen role, it could make sense for the Blue Jays given how he pitched in the playoffs but at the same time, if he is offered a starter job, he will most likely end up taking that instead.
Back in 2022, Bassitt ended up electing free agency after one season with the Mets and ended up signing with the Blue Jays.
During his time in New York, Bassitt put up solid numbers with a 3.42 ERA which is why a reunion between the two could make a lot of sense.
