Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer is now a free agent and it looks like most insiders are expecting him to head over to the National League West.

Scherzer was part of the 6 Blue Jays players that elected free agency on November 4th as the season came to an unfortunate end a few days prior.

San Francisco Giants expected to land Max Scherzer

The Blue Jays will be looking to lock down at least 1 starting pitcher this winter but unfortunately for Scherzer, they are looking to sign them to a long term deal.
According to Ken Rosenthal, many believe that Scherzer is set to sign a one year deal with the San Francisco Giants to reunite with his former pitcher coach Tony Vitello.
"Some in the industry expect Scherzer to land with the San Francisco Giants, reuniting with new manager Tony Vitello, his pitching coach at Missouri in the mid-2000s," Rosenthal wrote. "A return to Toronto also might be an option. Scherzer, like virtually all of the Blue Jays, speaks with great fondness about the unique bonds the players and their families forged last season." -Rosenthal

Scherzer has stated that his main goal in these last years of his career in winning which he came very close to this season in Toronto but unfortunately for him the chances of a real contender signing him are slim.
The Blue Jays did not get full use out of Scherzer this season and in the games he did pitch, he was far from his former self as he finished with a 5.19 ERA in 85 innings pitched.
The reason Scherzer will likely get another chance at playing is because he was dominant for the Blue Jays in the playoffs and a big part of them making it to the World Series.
If Scherzer is able to land a deal with the Giants or another team, 2026 will likely end up being his final season in the MLB after a historic career.
