The Toronto Blue Jays still seem to be far from getting a deal done with Bo Bichette but MLB insider Keegan Matheson just gave some positive news on the negotiations.
Blue Jays and Bo Bichette both still looking to get a deal done
The Blue Jays and Bichette both made it clear at the end of the season that both parties want to get a deal done but there has not much news since then.
Bichette has said all along that he wants to stay in Toronto. He wants to remain with the organization that drafted him in 2016 and developed him into an All-Star. He wants to play alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr., his longtime friend and co-star. Sentimentality only gets you so far, but the Blue Jays clearly hold some level of a «tiebreaker» here with Bichette if everything else is even. This organization needs another big bat in the middle of the lineup, too, and who better than Bichette, whose three-run home run off Shohei Ohtani in Game 7 of the World Series was nearly an era-defining moment? The interest here is mutual and the player fits a clear need, making this a sensible reunion on all fronts, even when you put emotion to the side. -Matheson
The signing of Dylan Cease was also a great push for Bichette since it proves that the Blue Jays are serious about returning to the World Series next season.
The Blue Jays need to bring back Bichette for next season if they plan on competing for a championship once again if they not they will be forced to land Kyle Tucker who they are not guaranteed to land.
Many are wondering why a deal is taking so long between the two parties if both want a deal to get done but Matheson did confirm that is still the case which is positive.
