Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finally gave Toronto Blue Jays fans a clearer picture of what's been going on with his recent absences.

Guerrero revealed he had an MRI on his right hamstring Wednesday in Houston, and the results came back showing only inflammation.

That's the news everyone wanted to hear, but Guerrero didn't downplay just how uncomfortable things had gotten before getting that answer.

"It hurt. It was a lot of pain. I really wanted to find out what was going on in there," Guerrero said.

That's a far more candid description than the earlier "tight, tired" characterization fans had been given, revealing this was clearly more uncomfortable than the initial updates suggested.

Guerrero is hitting .259 with six home runs across 108 games this season, and getting a clean MRI result matters a great deal for a player who's already logged heavy playing time through a difficult year.

He sounded genuinely relieved with the diagnosis once it came back.

"Just a little bit of inflammation," Guerrero said. "I can play with that."

Why this update reassures more than it worries

Inflammation alone, without any structural damage showing up on imaging, is about the best outcome a player can hope for after dealing with real pain and missed games.

That explains why he returned to the lineup yesterday, trusting the clean results enough to push through the discomfort that clearly hadn't fully disappeared.

It's a bit like getting test results back after a scary symptom and finding out it's nothing more serious than strain, relief mixed with the reminder that it still hurts in the meantime.

Does playing through hamstring inflammation this soon after real pain carry any risk of aggravating things further, or does a clean MRI genuinely clear him to push through it safely?

Toronto sits at 53-60, last in the American League East, and having their franchise cornerstone back and playing, even through some discomfort, matters for whatever's left of this season.
