Cavan Biggio is a free agent again after spending all of 2026 in Triple-A. The former Blue Jays fan favourite elected free agency this week.

He never got the call to Houston this season. In 123 games with Triple-A Sugar Land, he hit .230 with 18 homers.

He last played in the majors in 2025 with the Royals.

Toronto fans remember the start. Biggio burst onto the scene in 2019, setting career highs with 16 homers and 14 stolen bases as a rookie.

He spent six seasons with the Jays from 2019 to 2024. Over 490 games, he hit .227 with 48 homers.

How did the Blue Jays do on the way out? Pretty well, it turns out.

Cavan Biggio's trade brought Braydon Fisher to Toronto

Toronto traded Biggio to the Dodgers in June 2024 for right-hander Braydon Fisher. It quietly became one of the better small deals of Ross Atkins' tenure.

Fisher became a bullpen regular, logging 116 relief appearances since 2025.

His 2026 wasn't as sharp as his first full season, with his strikeout rate dipping. He's still a useful piece in a bullpen that needs depth.

Biggio, meanwhile, bounced from Los Angeles to Atlanta to Kansas City before landing in Houston's system.

Toronto shouldn't bring him back. The Jays need power and on-base skills from their bench, and a .230 hitter in Triple-A doesn't move the needle.

His career is like a band whose debut album was a hit. Every record since has been chasing that first sound.

He still has value as a versatile depth piece somewhere. A minor league deal with a spring invite seems likely.

For Jays fans, the memory of 2019 lingers. But the best thing Biggio did for Toronto might turn out to be the reliever he brought back in the trade.
