Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins spoke about the team's off-season plans recently including which position they will be most eager to fill.

The Blue Jays have been linked to a few big names so far this off-season but has yet to announce their first signing which includes minor league players as well.

Blue Jays looking to focus on starting pitchers this off-season

Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer are expected to leave in free agency this off-season which would leave two open spots in the starting rotation as of right now.
Atkins told the media that the team feels good about the starting pitcher market this winter and they will also be looking at pitchers on the trade front.
"We feel good about the free-agent market and the starting-pitching market. Relative to most years, it's a little bit better, seemingly. We'll get to work on the trade front, as well, and have started that," -Atkins

While the Blue Jays GM did not come out and say which free agent pitchers interest the team, clearly they have their eyes on a few big time names.
The Blue Jays have Shane Bieber, Trey Yesavage and Kevin Gausman returning but will need to figure out what to do with Bowden Francis who is coming back from injury as well but certainly does not have a locked spot in the rotation.
With Trey Yesavage set to make the 2026 Opening Day roster on paper, he can be written in alongside Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, Shane Bieber -- who opted into his player option -- and Bowden Francis -- who is coming back from injury. -Wakai

Francis had a very rough 2025 season which ended with an injury after delivering a brilliant end to his 2024 season which is why the Blue Jays might be willing to give him one more chance but he will definitely be on a short leash.
The free agent market has some seriously big arms this year which means the Blue Jays could end up with an even stronger rotation next season if they are finally able to lure some of the bigger players available.
