The Toronto Blue Jays arguably lost the World Series because of their pitching, but Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro have fixed all that this offseason, signing Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce, and now they are rumoured to retaining Chris Bassitt.

Bassitt was a veteran workhorse for the Blue Jays last season, getting a lot of innings in, he was vital to their success last season.

Toronto Blue Jays expected to sign Chris Bassitt.

Zach Pressnell of Newsweek reported on the Blue Jays still searching to perfect their pitching, the starting rotation and the bullpen. After signing the biggest contract so far to Cease, Bassitt will look to be in the $40M range.
"Jim Bowden of The Athletic projects Bassitt to sign for $45 million this winter, which should fit the Blue Jays very well. They can afford to give him around $15 million to $20 million a season to secure a spot in the rotation."-Pressnell

Bassitt was a reliable pitcher last season, and his biggest asset, was his longevity. Even though he is getting up there in age, he can still be a solid late rotation starter, or a go to reliever, given how many starters the Blue Jays have if they sign him.
"Veteran innings eater with a 3.96 ERA over 170.1 IP in 2025; velocity decline is a concern at his age, but limits hard contact and remains effective with a varied pitch mix"-Pressnell

The Blue Jays are committed to fixing the mistakes they made last season. Pitching is and always will be the most important aspect of the modern game.
The Dodgers had a much better and deeper rotation, and it's why they ended up winning the whole thing. The Blue Jays will not make the same mistake twice.
