The Toronto Blue Jays are in the middle of the World Series but many are already looking towards the off-season and free agency as a Shane Bieber update was announced.

For quite a while now, many believe that Bieber will end up declining his player option in the winter since he will be able to sign a larger deal this off-season with how he has pitched since returning from Tommy John surgery.

Bieber has been great for the Blue Jays in the World Series so far as he pitched 5.1 innings in game 4, giving up only 4 hits and 1 earned run with 3 strike outs.

Due to how well he has pitched for the Blue Jays during the regular season and in the playoffs, many believe he will receive quite the payday even if he returns to Toronto.
According to insider Jim Bowden, he believes that Bieber will not be given a very big term but thinks that he should land around a 3 year deal worth about $75 million which would pay him an average of $25 million per season.
"He'll probably have to accept another shorter-term deal with an opt-out clause that allows him to get back into free agency next offseason, when he might really be able to cash in if his stuff fully returns. Perhaps a three-year deal worth $75 million with an opt-out after Year 1 would make sense here." -Bowden

Bieber finished the 2025 season with a 3.57 ERA in 40.1 innings pitched while finishing with a 4-2 record and 37 strikeouts.
This post-season he has stayed on the same pace as he has a 3.57 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched to go along with a 2-0 record and 18 strike outs.
It will be interesting to see if Bieber ends up declining his player option after the World Series and if he does, if the Blue Jays make him a new offer.
