Daulton Varsho sends message to the Yankees ahead of series
The Toronto Blue Jays have a big series against the New York Yankees that is beginning tonight at Yankees stadium but it seems to not be that big of a series to Daulton Varsho.
The Blue Jays and Yankees have had quite the rivalry this season to the point where broadcasters have even getting involved where Jamie Campbell and Michael Kay were throwing shots at each other.
Daulton Varsho does not want to make this series bigger than it is
Toronto currently leads the AL East with a 3 game lead over the Yankees which means that if they were to get swept in New York, the Yankees would be back in contention for first.
Varsho recently spoke to the media about the big series in the Bronx, stating that the Yankees are a very good team that they cannot take lightly but at the same time he does not want to make this series bigger than it is.
"Just playing good baseball," Varsho said, per Chisholm. "Don't try to make the series bigger than what it needs to be. Just knowing that they're a good team, we have to play well." -Varsho
The Blue Jays star outfielder sees this as any other series where the Blue Jays are facing a solid roster and is not reading into it more than that.
MLB reporter Greg Chisolm stated that if the Blue Jays can find a way to win the series, they will widen the gap between them and the Yankees, giving them a bit of a safety net for the end of the season.
"Taking two of three games would allow the Yankees to reduce the gap a bit more," Gregor Chisholm wrote for the Toronto Star. "A sweep would pull them close to even. If the Jays come out on top, the Yankees would be knocked down another peg with time starting to run out on their season." -Chisolm
Even if Varsho seems to be stating that this series is like any other, it certainly feels different with a lot more on the line than usual.
The game starts at 7:05 PM at Yankee stadium as Kevin Gausman will be on the mound for the Blue Jays, taking on Cam Schlittler.
