Eric Lauer sends message to Shane Bieber and the Blue Jays
When news broke that Lauer was being sent to the bullpen many fans were surprised since he has been one of their best pitchers since the all-star break as he has a 2.76 ERA on the season with 87 strikeouts in 88 innings pitched.
"To make room for him, the Blue Jays are relegating Eric Lauer to the bullpen despite his rising status as one of the team's best pitchers. Lauer has a 2.76 ERA with 87 strikeouts in 88 innings so far this year. He leads all of the team's pitchers with a 2.7 WAR." -Chawaga
Lauer spoke to on the move to the bullpen stating that everyone deserves a chance to pitch in the rotation and that good teams have tough conversations which this is one of them.
"Everyone is deserving to be in this rotation, and everyone is deserving to pitch," he said, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson. "Good teams have tough conversations sometimes, and this is definitely one of them." -Lauer
Additionally, Lauer stated that the most important part in having 6 starting pitchers is that the Blue Jays keep an open line of communication and that adding Bieber to the rotation is a no-brainer since he is a really good pitcher.
"That's the biggest thing," Lauer said of the "open line of communication" among the Blue Jays as they make room for Bieber in the rotation, according to Matheson. "Obviously, we added a really, really good pitcher. Things are going to happen, but we want to make it as seamless and easy for everybody as possible." -Lauer
The Blue Jays decision to keep Bieber in the starting rotation will be very easy if he delivers in his first game back against the Marlins but things will get much harder if he struggles on the mound.
Bieber will make his debut against the Marlins in Miami tomorrow night at 7:10 PM.
