Dan Plesac states that if Shane Bieber continues to pitch this way he is the Blue Jays number 1 pitcher
Last week against the Marlins, Bieber had a brilliant performance in which he pitched six innings giving up only two hits and one earned run which led to Plesac's comments.
"Bieber went six innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run. It was his first big league action since last year, and he looked like a star. In fact, he looked so good, former Blue Jays pitcher Dan Plesac made a bold claim about the former Cy Young Award winner." -Mohammed
Plesac stated that if Bieber continues to pitch at the level for the rest of the season he will surely be heading into the playoffs as the Blue Jays number one pitcher even though the sample size is small.
"From the guy that I saw Friday night in Miami, if he's that guy for the next four weeks, he's No. 1," -Plesac
The reason this is a bold comment is that Bieber has only played one game in almost two years and this might cause some trouble in the clubhouse if he is given the ball for game 1 of the playoffs when certain pitchers have been here much longer.
The other solid option would likely be Max Scherzer who has been unbelievable lately with a 3.35 ERA in his last 7 games with a 4-2 record in 43 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts.
The reason Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios or Chris Bassitt are likely not to be considered for the start of the playoffs is that they have all dealt with some consistency issues this season.
Going with Scherzer or Bieber if he continues to play like this for game 1 of the playoffs seems to be a great choice as of right now.
