Former Toronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire is once again free agent as the Chicago Cubs decided to non-tender him.
Another former Blue Jays player was let go last night as pitcher Alek Manoah was non-tendered by the Atlanta Braves and is headed to free agency for the first time in his career.

The MLB non-tender deadline was last night as multiple players were not offered deals and consequently are now free agents as they search for new deals.
Among those players was McGuire who was non-tendered by the Cubs and has once again became a free agent.
I'm not surprised, but I am a bit sad Reese McGuire wasn't tendered a contract.
He became one of my favorites this season and I remember how this moment felt when he signed my McGuire jersey in September.
Best of luck whatever his next steps may be.

McGuire put up decent numbers as a back up catcher in Chicago last season which is why the decision is a bit surprising but he should have no trouble landing a new deal this off-season.
The Cubs non-tendered C Reese McGuire, sources tell ESPN.
In 2025, McGuire finished with 9 home runs and 24 RBIs in only 45 games with the Cubs while also putting up a .226 batting average and .245 on base percentage.
While McGuire will not be able to land a starting role, multiple teams will likely be interested in him as a back up catcher for next season.
