Former all-star and Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Jake Lamb decided to announce his retirement last night.

While the main focus across the MLB right now is free agency, other big news has been coming out such as Lamb's retirement from baseball.

Jake Lamb announces retirement

After 10 seasons in the MLB and the last few years playing in the minors, Lamb announced that he has decided to hang up his cleats and retire from professional baseball.

Former Blue Jay Jake Lamb retires

Lamb had a solid career but his best season came in 2017 with the Arizona Diamondbacks when he finished with 30 home runs and 105 RBIs to go along with a .844 OPS which resulted in his only all-star appearance.

In 2017, Jake Lamb became RAKE LAMB

149 games
30 doubles
30 homers
105 RBI
.844 OPS
112 OPS+

Following that season, Lamb would unfortunately never hit those numbers again as his best season after that would be in 2021 when he finished with 7 home runs and 19 RBIs.

Lamb played for the Blue Jays during the 2021 season but only saw 12 games in Toronto where he hit 1 home run and 6 RBIs before being designated for assignment.

It will be interesting to see if Lamb decides to continue in baseball as a coach or if he will end up enjoying retirement and finding a new passion to occupy his time.

The Blue Jays fan base wish Lamb all the best in this new chapter of his life.
