There has been a lot of movement across the entire league lately as even former Blue Jays infielder Jake Lamb was recently released by the San Francisco Giants from their Triple-A affiliate team.
Former Blue Jays pitcher Thomas Hatch DFA'd by the Royals
The Kansas City Royal announced yesterday that they selected Hatch's contract from Triple-A but then followed that move up by DFA'ing him not long after which kept him from playing in any game with them after being selected.
Thomas Hatch (Jenks '13, OSU '14-'16) had his contract selected by the Kansas City Royals from the (AAA) Omaha Storm Chasers today
Hatch was drafted by the Cubs in 2016 & has pitched in the bigs for Toronto & Pittsburgh
Hatch has not played in the MLB since 2023 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and spent the 2024 season playing in Japan before signing a minor league deal this off-season with the Royals.
The former Blue Jays pitcher's best year came in Toronto with his best being his first season in the MLB back in 2020 where he finished with a 2.73 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched.
This season Hatch has a 4.59 ERA in 51 innings pitched with the Storm Chasers which is why it will not be easy for him to find a new minor league contract.
It will be interesting to see if Hatch clear's waivers if he will choose to enter free agency or stay with the Royals.
