Jameson Taillon and Yimi Garcia both plan to pitch in 2027, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. The former Blue Jays are coming off injury-wrecked seasons.

Taillon underwent flexor surgery with an internal brace procedure in early October. Arm issues had followed him since Toronto acquired him from the Cubs on Aug. 2.

His Jays tenure was brief and frustrating. On Aug. 10 against the Red Sox, he threw four scoreless innings before leaving with right forearm tendinitis.

He returned Sept. 4 against the Royals but lasted only two innings. Right elbow discomfort sent him back to the IL and ended his season.

Across Chicago and Toronto, he made 18 starts with a 5.65 ERA. That closed out the four-year, $68 million deal he signed with the Cubs in December 2022.

Where does a 34-year-old go from here? Most likely, a minor league deal.

Yimi Garcia never threw a pitch for the Blue Jays in 2026

Garcia's year was even rougher. He opened the season rehabbing from September 2025 elbow surgery and never appeared in a big-league game.

He pitched at Single-A Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo, but a nerve issue followed his July 25 outing. In late August, John Schneider announced he'd had thoracic outlet surgery in Dallas.

That ended the two-year, $15 million deal he signed in December 2024. Now he'll try to prove he's healthy at 36.

His 2025 numbers were solid when he pitched. He struck out 25 over 21 innings and held hitters to a .171 average.

Toronto shouldn't bring either back. The Jays just spent a year drowning in injuries, and adding two pitchers coming off major surgeries would repeat the same mistake.

Re-signing them would be like buying back a car you just sold because it kept breaking down. The memories are nice, but the repair bills aren't.

Both will likely land minor league deals somewhere. Taillon owns a career 3.99 ERA, so someone will take the low-risk chance.

For the Jays, the lesson from 2026 is durability above all. That means Ross Atkins' shopping list shouldn't include anyone still rehabbing in February.
