MLB insider Jeff Passan went on the Blair & Barker show today, in which he spoke of the steep asking price the Toronto Blue Jays would have to pay for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller.

The Blue Jays have made it clear that they need to add some pitchers at the trade deadline which is why the Pittsburgh Pirates could be a great trading partner since they will be big sellers at the trade deadline.

Jeff Passan confirms the Blue Jays will need to give up Arjun Nimmala for Mitch Keller and David Bednar

On the Blair & Barker show today, Passan stated that he sees Keller landing in Toronto since it would be a great fit for the Blue Jays especially since they have a lot of older pitchers on expiring deals and Keller is locked in until 2028.
Passan stated that if the Blue Jays were to acquire both Bednar and Keller, they would have to put together a package that included one of their top prospects, Arjun Nimmala.
«You could see [Mitch Keller] starting a postseason game If they were to get Keller and [David] Bednar, it would start with [Arjun] Nimmala.»

Adding both Bednar and Keller would be incredible for the Blue Jays since both their starting rotation and bullpen have had quite a few issues this season.

So far this season, Keller has been stellar as he currently has a 3.64 ERA n 106.1 innings pitched with 84 strikeouts and a 1.19 WHIP on a terrible Pirates team.

Bednar on the other hand has had an incredible bounce back year in 2025 as he currently has 2.70 ERA in 30 innings pitched after finishing with a 5.77 ERA last season.

If the Blue Jays somehow manage to get this deal done, losing Nimmala would definitely be worth it for the type of pitchers they would be getting in return.
