Toronto Blue Jays fans are still processing Kevin Gausman's departure, and his five-year-old daughter just made it a little more painful.
During Wednesday's Cubs-Dodgers broadcast on Marquee Sports Network, Gausman shared a hilarious moment from his daughter Sadie's reaction to his new team.
"My five-year-old, after the first game here, was kind of poking me a little bit and said, 'You know, I like the Cubs. They can beat the Dodgers,'" Gausman said.
Gausman couldn't help but laugh at what came next.
"That was kind of a stab in the heart," he said. "Right after she said the Blue Jays couldn't, so that was a tough moment."
That's a genuinely funny, if painful, callback to Toronto's extra-innings Game 7 World Series loss last October, a wound still fresh less than a year later.
Chicago's trade for Gausman has already paid off in a big way. The Cubs scored 10 runs against the Dodgers in his first game with the club before completing a full three-game sweep of the defending champions.

Toronto traded Gausman to Chicago on Sunday in exchange for prospects Ty Southisene and Brett Bateman, closing out his five-year run with the organization.

That kind of immediate success only reinforces just how significant a piece Gausman could be for a team building toward a real October run.
It's a bit like watching your old coworker thrive at their new job almost immediately, bittersweet for anyone still attached to where they used to work.
Rumors had floated the possibility of Gausman facing his former team as early as Thursday, but he'll instead make his Cubs debut Friday against the Kansas City Royals instead.
