The Toronto Blue Jays are in a very strange situation when it comes to Vladimir Guerrero Jr and it looks like the New York Mets have taken notice of the situation.
Guerrero is looking for around $500 million from his next contract and despite making it clear to the Blue Jays that he will not sign a discounted deal as he knows that he will be able to reach that number in free agency.
The Mets seem interested in acquiring Vladimir Guerrero Jr if the Blue Jays do not re-sign him
The New York Mets have proven that they are not shy when it comes to spending money between the historic Juan Soto deal this off-season and shortstop Francisco Lindor's current deal.

According to recent reports, the Mets could be very interested in signing
Guerrero next off-season if they do not end up re-signing first baseman Pete Alonso and if the Blue Jays fail to get a contract extension done.
If the New York Mets miss out on fan favorite Pete Alonso, many expect the franchise to be heavy players on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the 2026 offseason. However, other sluggers are hitting free agency after the 2025 season. One name that comes to mind is outfielder Kyle Tucker. -Nolan
The Mets seem to be only interested in making massive offer to
Guerrero next off-season if they do not sign Alonso this winter but with owner Steve Cohen, there is always a chance he decides to try and sign both.
It will be interesting to see if the Mets bring back Alonso. If they re-sign the Polar Bear, it will likely keep them out of the Guerrero Jr. bidding. With Tucker hitting the open market though, it still allows Steve Cohen to build a super team. -Nolan
As the days continue to go on and get closer to the first day of Spring Training in which Guerrero stated he would no longer negotiate, many teams seem interested in the superstar except for the Blue Jays.
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins knows exactly the number it would take to keep Guerrero in Toronto but continues to try and find a way to lower the number.
If it all works out then great but there is a strong chance that continuing to try and lower the price will burn the bridge for good between the two parties.
