The Blue Jays receive good news regarding Pete Alonso as he has rejected offer from the Mets
Earlier this week it was said that Alonso would like to return to New York but now it was reported that things might have changed as Alonso rejected an offer from the Mets.
According to reports, the Mets made Alonso an offer worth around $70 million over three years which he rejected but when exactly he declined this offer has yet to be announced.
According to SNY's Andy Martino, Alonso declined a three-year offer from the Mets that totaled more than $70 million when taking into account deferred money, and the team has since signed Jesse Winker and A.J. Minter. -SNY
The Blue Jays have apparently made Alonso a three year offer but the exact amount is still unknown but it is said to be around the $70 million mark which is very similar to the offer he got from the Mets but rejected.
Martino noted on Monday night's Baseball Night in New York that the deal Alonso declined from the Mets was "gonna be tough for him to beat with the Blue Jays." -SNY
"The final Mets offer that Alonso turned down -- that's gonna be tough for him to beat with the Blue Jays," Martino said. "That was the $70 million that we talked about for three years, additional deferred money. That could've been a real win probably in what the ultimate dollar figure would've looked like for Alonso. -SNY
If the Blue Jays could land Alonso at around $70 million over three years, they would be paying him $23.33 million which would be a great deal from what he would bring to the table offensively.
Fans are hoping Ross Atkins can find a way to get a deal done as it would change their entire off-season.
