The Toronto Blue Jays have been trying extremely hard to close a deal with free agent Pete Alonso but negotiations have taken a turn for the worse as Alonso desperately wants to return to the New York Mets.
Free agent Pete Alonso does not seem to want to sign with the Blue Jays as he would prefer return to the Mets
There has been a ton of reports in the past few weeks that Alonso was ready to move on from the Mets and was open to signing with the Blue Jays that were the team with the most interest in signing him but things have now drastically changed.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Alonso desperately wants to return to the Mets which means he will likely be willing to take less money if they make him an offer lower than the Blue Jays.

This is terrible news for Toronto as they were said to be closing in on the deal with Alonso but it seems like he has changed his mind, at least for right now which is why the Blue Jays have been unable to sign him yet.
Alonso is the Blue Jays top target right now as he would help them also land free agent pitcher Max Scherzer but now that Alonso has lost some interest in Toronto, the Blue Jays might need to raise their offer.
"Alonso is an important guy for Toronto... it changes the look for them."

Hopefully GM Ross Atkins can work some magic and convince him to sign or there is still hope that the Mets decide to not make Alonso an offer even if he wants to return as they did claim that the y have moved on from him.
