The Phillies are currently one of the best team's in baseball as they are loaded with talent plus they added to that incredible roster at the trade deadline with moves such as acquiring Jhoan Duran.
The fact that the Phillies decided to sign Waguespack despite their strong roster is the most surprising part in all of this which they announced this afternoon as they agreed to a minor league deal with Waguespack.
The Phillies signed RHP Jacob Waguespack to a minor league contract.
The Philadelphia Phillies signed RHP Jacob Waguespack to a minor league contract.
Waguespack has had a tough time over the last few years as he has only played 31 games since entering the MLB with the Blue Jays back in 2019 and currently has a rough 5.11 career ERA.
Despite having a very difficult time in the majors, Waguespack actually put up solid numbers in the minors this season as he has a 0.46 ERA in 19.2 innings pitched with the Rays Triple-A affiliate team.
Even if Waguespack has always struggled in the majors, if he is able to continue to put up impressive numbers in the minors, the Phillies might end up giving him a try if they run into injury problems with their pitchers down the line.
Waguespack's best season in the MLB is still his first year with the Blue Jays in which he finished with a 4.38 ERA in 79 innings pitched.
Hopefully he will find a way in Philadelphia to return to the pitcher he once was with the Blue Jays.
