The Toronto Blue Jays could end up missing out on Bo Bichette this off-season and it looks like they could look at San Diego Padres all-star as a replacement.

MLB Bob Nightengale stated that the Blue Jays are still considered the top landing spot for Bichette but having a back option is not a bad plan either just in case he does end up leaving.

Potential trade offer between the Blue Jays and Padres

The Padres are currently looking at possibly trading Tatis this off-season according to some reports which is where the Blue Jays could come in.
If the Blue Jays end up losing Bichette, going after Tatis to replace his offensive output could be a great solution but will certainly not be easy.
While listing trade candidates, Nightengale surprisingly included Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres. FanSided's Christopher Kline suggested that Bichette's departure could open the door for the Blue Jays to trade for Tatis. -Mohammed

If the Blue Jays somehow to find a way to get a deal done with the Padres, having him replace Bichette is the order would certainly not only be great but would end up being an upgrade as well.
Tatis would not only replace Bichette's production, but he would be an upgrade. The Blue Jays would have to shuffle the infield after losing their shortstop, but adding Tatis' bat to the lineup would be huge. He posted an .814 OPS last season, in what was considered a down year. -Mohammed

The one issue with trying to complete a trade with the Padres for Tatis is that the Blue Jays will certainly have to give up some big time prospects and also at least one full-time MLB player.
While a trade would certainly cost Toronto quite a bit, they could still end up on top if they move the right players in exchange.
Even if the Blue Jays end up keeping Bichette, finding a way to bring Tatis to Toronto could really help their chances of returning to the World Series next season.
