The Cubs and Tigers seem interested in trading for Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt
The Blue Jays have been looking into trading Bassitt after an average year in 2024 and the fact that he is entering the final year of his contract this season with the Blue Jays not seeming interested in re-signing him.
According to reports, the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs were both have sshown interest in Bassitt and it looks like the Blue Jays are currently shopping him and seeing what they could get in return.
Unimportant now but before signing Verlander - I had gotten wind but unable to confirm their interest in Chris Bassitt- who Jays have talked to several teams about including CHC and Detroit.
There was little movement - and unable to fully confirm to post
However, I mention this now because a team that's been very interested in SP - Detroit and Cleveland - super important to watch as Cards fans and I guess Jays if they can find a taker for Chris.
Bassitt is set to earn $22million in 2025 and if the Blue Jays are able to get his contract off the books and replace him with a more consistent pitcher, they will only benefit from this.
The 35 year old pitcher is coming off his worst season since 2016 as he finished with a 4.16 ERA and will not bring back a massive return but could get the Blue Jays possibly a solid prospect or two.
The main goal in trading Bassitt would be getting his contract off the payroll to free up room to place that money elsewhere.
Hopefully the Blue Jays can get a deal done before Spring Training as waiting until the trade deadline will lower his value.
