The Blue Jays decided to trade infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa right before the trade deadline hit despite no shopping the player in recent weeks.
GM Ross Atkins mentioned in an interview that they did not plan on trading Kiner-Falefa but that the Pirates reached out and were very interested in acquiring him which is why a deal ended up getting done.
Ross Atkins said the #BlueJays did not raise Isiah Kiner-Falefa's name in talks themselves, but the Pirates were particularly aggressive:
"...There were several teams that approached us about him. I was surprised that we crossed the line."

Fans are happy with the return the team was able to get for Kiner-Falefa despite being disappointed of losing the beloved infielder.
