Sportsnet and the Toronto Blue Jays are celebrating a ten year high in viewership as the team is headed for a long playoff run, unfortunately for them Apple TV wants to get in on the action, and might hijack a possible postseason clinch for the Blue Jays.
Apple TV will stream the Blue Jays game friday where they can punch their ticket for fall baseball and clinch the division.
Apple TV to stream potential playoff clinch for Blue Jays.
Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun broke the news that Apple TV will be covering the Blue Jays game this friday as they aim to clinch a playoff spot.
"That streaming, quietly added last week, is slated for Friday, when the Jays will face the host Kansas City Royals in the first of a three-game series. Depending on how things shake out the rest of the week - beginning Monday with a four-game series in Tampa against the Rays - there's a strong possibility that the Jays could clinch at least a wild-card spot some time on the weekend."-Longley
Fans have voiced their opinion over the last few years on how much they prefer the broadcast on Sportsnet which is why this is a big blow to the network to potentially not be covering the Blue Jays clinch their spot.
"It would be unfortunate for Sportsnet, which thoroughly covers all the Jays activity, if that came on Friday. The frivolity of those clinching parties are a hit with fans, who get to see more of the personality of the team they've watched all season, a feature Sportsnet has handled well in the past."-Longley
Despite the minor setback the network has had soaring numbers this year, thanks to the success of the club but also how well the network is appreciated.
"Meanwhile, the ratings numbers continue to go through the roof for the Canadian broadcaster, further evidence of how strong fan engagement is across the country this season. The Blue Jays' blowout win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, which finished off a three-game sweep of the Jays divisional foe, attracted 1.6 million viewers, a season high for Sportsnet. Even more impressive, that viewership number came against broadcasts of NFL Week 2 games."-Longley
While this may be a small blow to Sportsnet they still have had a great season to boast about, and the numbers should soar even more during the postseason.
