Toronto Blue Jays Kevin Gausman has some massive words of encourgement for Trey Yesavage
Toronto Blue Jays ace pitcher Kevin Gausman recently spoke with insider Keegan Matheson about Trey Yesavage's first start and how great he was.
Yesavage had an incredible MLB debut as he made history for the most strikeouts in a first game with 9 strikeouts through 5 innings pitched.
Kevin Gausman has big praises for Yesavage
Gausman has been arguably one of the better starting pitcher over the last 5 years which is why his comments about Yesavage are so big.
The Blue Jays ace stated during an interview that Yesavage is miles ahead of where he was at 22 years old and the two pitchers should not even be compared.
«I was nowhere near that when I was 22. Don't even compare me to him,» -Gausman
Gausman also went on to point out how the at bat against Tampa Bay Rays Brandon Lowe was incredible as he had everyone in the stadium in shock with his pitches.
«He made Brandon Lowe look like he's never seen a changeup before, and that guy's a good changeup hitter,» Gausman said. «That was the one at-bat when I was like, 'Wow, that pitch is elite.'» -Gausman
Clearly Yesavage is a very special young pitcher since Gausman had nothing but good things to say about him during his interview.
«He's just funky. It's funky. His setup is funky,» Gausman said. «He's pounding the zone. That was pretty fun to watch. The first two hitters, you're like, «Oh [crap]. Is this a welcome to The Show type of thing?' He just needed to get acclimated to the game, I guess. I haven't seen a young guy make a debut like that ever.» -Gausman
If Yesavage continues to pitch this way, the Blue Jays will seriosuly have to figure out what to do with him because moving him to the bullpen like most people expected might end up being a big mistake.
