The Chicago Cubs announced that they have cut ties with two former Toronto Blue Jays players, infielder Jon Berti and pitcher Nate Pearson.

Pearson has been having a rough season where he has struggled in both the majors and minors, failing to secure himself a spot in the Cubs bullpen all season.

Cubs DFA and option former Blue Jays players

The Blue Jays took the first game of the series against the Cubs last night in a great team effort as they pulled off a 5-1 win with Jose Berrios on the mound who pitched an incredible 5.1 innings giving up 0 earned runs.
The Cubs announced yesterday that they decided too option Pearson back to Triple-A and DFA Berti to make room for Javier Assad and Miguel Amaya who were activated off 60 day IL.
Javier Assad and Miguel Amaya have been reinstated from the 60-day IL.

Nate Pearson has been optioned.

Jon Berti has been DFA'd.
Cubs Designate Jon Berti For Assignment
There is no surprise that the Cubs decided to option Pearson as he currently has a 9.20 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched this season with only 7 strikeouts in that time as he continues to struggle on the mound.
Berti on the other hand, is also not a surprising move as he has played in 53 games this season but has only gotten 100 at bats with 0 homeruns and 5 RBIs but has managed to put up a decent .210 batting average and .262 on base percentage.
The Blue Jays will now look to win the series this tonight with Kevin Gausman on the mound as he will face Cade Horton who has been having an incredible season.
The Blue Jays face the Cubs tonight at 7:07 PM at the Rogers Centre.
