News broke a few days ago that the Cubs decided to DFA Pearson to make room on their roster after a tough 2025 season in Chicago.

The Cubs have decided to part ways with Pearson after a very bad season and he will likely end up staying a free agent until the end of the season.
Cubs Release Nate Pearson
Pearson had a tough run this year even though he did not see much time in the majors as he finihsed with a 9.20 ERA in 14.1 innings this season while only striking out 7 batters.
When looking at ERA, Pearson's best season is still during his time with the Blue Jays in 2021 when he finished with a 4.20 ERA but also had a very small sample size as he only pitched 15 innings.
Pearson was one a top prospect for the Blue Jays as he was drafted 28th overall in the first round of the 2017 MLB draft but unfortunately was never able to live up to his selection.
Pearson will now wait for the off-season to start looking for a new MLB contract which will likely end up being a minor league deal due to how his past few years have gone.
There is a good chance that pearson is able to land himself a minor league deal but at the same time it is just as likely that he ends up without a contract and has to go play overseas if he wants to continue playing.
It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out for Pearson over the next few months.
