The Blue Jays sign catcher Christian Bethancourt and pitcher Lovelady
The Blue Jays announced this afternoon that they have agreed to minor league deals with former Chicago Cubs catcher Christian Bethancourt and former Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Richard Lovelady.
Both Lovelady and Bethancourt have been signed to minor league deals with the Blue Jays which will also include major league Spring Training invites for both players.
OFFICIAL: We've signed C Christian Bethancourt and LHP Richard Lovelady to Minor League deals with invites to #SpringTraining.
Signing Behtancourt is a great move by the Blue Jays as it gives them some added depth at the catcher position which they desperately needed with so few catchers within their organization.
Lovelady on the other hand could end up being a solid signing since he had a solid second half of the season after he was acquired by the Rays as he had a 3.77 ERA in 28.2 innings pitched with the Rays.
Both signings are not going to have a massive impact for the Blue Jays but they certainly both will add a bit of security if injuries happen, especially in Bethancourt's case.
Hopefully GM Ross Atkins have a few more moves left this off-season after these signings.
