The Toronto Blue Jays plan on going after a starting pitcher at the trade deadline according to GM Ross Atkins but that might create some problems for their starting rotation.

The Blue Jays have been linked to multiple pitchers lately including Athletics Luis Severino who they will face this week as it looks like there main goal is trading for a pitcher and right handed bat.

Blue Jays might end up with a serious logjam in their starting rotation at the trade deadline

The Blue Jays have three reliable pitchers in Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman and Chris Bassitt but the worries comes from Max Scherzer who is still having injury problems and Eric Lauer who is still unproven due to his small sample size.
Gausman, Bassitt and Berrios are all proven veterans that will take the ball every fifth day. They may not be at the height of their powers, but their ability to be available is just as valuable. The issue lies in the uncertainty around Scherzer's health and Lauer's track record. -Fisher

The reason behind the Blue Jays going after a pitcher at the trade deadline is because they have too many uncertainties in their rotation even when Bowden Francis and Alek Manoah return, no one knows how they will pitch.
Since the Blue Jays currently have 5 starting pitchers plus two more set to come back from injury soon, some are worried that adding another pitcher will cause some big issues.
The catch here is that the Blue Jays have a full starting rotation at the moment. So adding more pitching would create a problem, albeit a good problem. -Fisher

With everyone healthy the Blue Jays have 6 starting pitchers plus if they trade for another that would put them at 7 but there is a good chance they decide to move on from Francis with how he has played this year.
When it comes to Manoah, they might use him as a long reliever this year since he has not pitched in so long and they are not sure what to expect when he returns.
While they might end up with a serious logjam, acquiring another pitcher will definitely leave them better off than if they don't because if Manoah and Francis struggle or Scherzer goes down again, they will be in serious trouble.
