Clarington baseball fans got a big win Sunday as the Toronto Blue Jays announced a nearly $110,000 Jays Care Foundation Field of Dreams grant to upgrade the hardball diamond at Soper Creek Park in Bowmanville.

The planned upgrades feature new player benches, a rebuilt backstop, better field grading, and covered dugouts to offer shade and rain protection. These improvements aim to enhance safety, comfort, and the overall experience for local players and visiting teams alike.

Clarington baseball community will receive grant from Blue Jays for field upgrades.

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has this to say upon hearing the news.
«This is a home run for Clarington! Just ask any major leaguer, and I bet they fell in love with the sport on their hometown ball diamond. This is where players learn teamwork, celebrate their victories, and dust themselves off after losses. It's where we create memories and build community.» -Foster

Glenn Hendry from INsauga writes that the announcement was made during a community watch party on Sunday at the Garnet Rickard Recreation Complex, where over 500 enthusiastic baseball fans, young athletes, and local residents gathered to celebrate and show their community pride.
«We can't wait to see everyone play on our revamped ball diamond. A huge thank you to the Jays Care Foundation from all our ball players and the entire community.» -Foster

Clarington also received national recognition as one of this year's Field of Dreams grant recipients during a live television broadcast, a proud moment for the entire community, noted Foster.

Work at Soper Creek Park, located at 133 Simpson Avenue in Bowmanville, is scheduled to start later this year, with the upgraded field set to reopen for the 2026 baseball season.
