The Toronto Blue Jays have a chance at trading for the best pitcher in baseball
The Toronto Blue Jays just signed Dylan Cease but are still looking to add to their starting rotation and they could look at going after Detroit Tigers Tarik Skubal.
The Blue Jays made a point of adding to their starting rotation this off-season with a huge $210 million deal with Cease but it looks like more moves can be on the way.
Blue Jays could look at blockbuster trade for Tarik Skubal
The Tigers appear to be listening to offers regarding Skubal since there has been multiple reports on the two parties been extremely far away on a contract extension number as Skubal is looking for around $450 million.
The main issue for the Blue Jays or any other team looking at trading for Skubal is that the Tigers will be looking for a massive return which would only guarantee the receiving team one year of service unless they trade and sign him right away to an extension.
What team wouldn't want Skubal leading the way to the World Series? The trouble is that the price tag will be enormous for only one year of service, unless someone is willing to offer $450 million on the spot. The Tigers will trade Skubal only if they get completely blown away, delaying any tough decision until next summer. But it doesn't hurt to ask - and the Tigers are willing to at least listen. -Nightengale
Skubal has had an ERA of below 3.00 in his last 3 seasons with the Tigers and finished with a 2.21 ERA in 195.1 innings pitched last season to go along with a 13-6 record.
The Blue Jays are in need of adding a left handed pitcher to their starting rotation as they only option right now is Eric Lauer who has been moved to the bullpen.
Even if the Blue Jays would have to part ways with a couple of their top prospects to land Skubal, it would be worth the risk for the 29 year old pitcher.
The Blue Jays want to make a big splash this off-season in hopes of returning to the World Series next season and no move would be bigger and more fitting for them than acquiring Skubal.
