The Toronto Blue Jays have been dealt a significant and potentially season-altering setback, as concerning news has emerged regarding star pitcher Yimi Garcia. The veteran reliever has been a key piece of the team's bullpen, and this latest development could have serious implications for Toronto's playoff hopes moving forward.

The Blue Jays announced a series of moves on Thursday.

Blue Jays pitcher Yimi Garcia shutdown due to injury.

Ryley Delaney from Blue Jays Nation writes that according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling, Anthony Santander is still dealing with a week-to-week injury, while Alek Manoah is scheduled to pitch in a simulated game this Saturday.
Andrés Giménez is currently running in Toronto as part of his recovery, and Daulton Varsho will begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A. Additionally, both Yimi Garcia and Nick Sandlin have received cortisone shots in their elbow.

Similar to Varsho and Giménez, both Garcia and Sandlin have already experienced two separate stints on the Injured List this season. Garcia has posted a 3.86 ERA and a 3.81 FIP over 21 innings pitched.
Notably, one of those innings occurred just after he initially returned from the Injured List, only for him to be placed back on the IL immediately afterward.
The Blue Jays will face the Tigers in Detroit on Saturday at 6:10 p.m.
